Oak Ridge resident Anne Backus issued thanks to the president for his work, saying she thought he'd done a great job.

And, she stands in support of the vice president for the next president of the United States.

"I'm all in," Backus said. "I think she'd (Harris) be a great candidate and president."

Backus is running for the 33rd District seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives currently held by state Rep. John Ragan. District 33 includes Oak Ridge and most of Anderson County. She is also the treasurer for the Anderson County Democratic Party. She's the lone candidate for the position on the Anderson County Democratic Primary. In the local Republican Primary, Ragan is facing former Cinton police chief Rick Scarbrough.

"President Joe Biden's decision not to seek reelection is a moment of selflessness from a true public servant," read a statement from the county Democratic Party, provided by Chase Lindsey, the communications chair . "Through President Biden's tenure, America's position on the world stage has been fortified, historic investments have been made in American infrustructure, the most significant climate legislation in history has been passed, and millions of Americans are able to enjoy access to lowered prescription costs and quality afforable healthcare. His vision and dedication to the American people have laid a strong foundation for the future infront of us. President Biden embodies true patriotism, putting the nation's good above personal ambition.

"This election, we face choices that will shape our democracy and the future of our country. Let's honor President Biden's legacy by electing leaders who will continue advancing the values and initiatives that strengthen America from the middle out and from the bottom up. See you at the polls on Nov. 5," Lindsey concluded in the statement.

"As chair of the Anderson County Democratic Party, I want to thank President Biden for all he has done for countryT," stated Elizabeth Ibbotson, the party's chair . "The president has accomplished so much, he brought together the world to support democracy around the globe, made major investments in our infrastructure, helped the elderly with lower drug costs, and the list goes on. As is typical of him, he has put the country first with his decision not to run. We will support who ever is the nominee of our party."
