Scorching temperatures sent Long Islanders to the water to beat the heat. News 12's Jon Dowding was at Byron Lake Pool in Oakdale where people were trying to keep cool in dangerous heat. News 12's Kevin Vesey was at Splish Splash in Calverton where the water park says it was seeing higher crowds due to the intense heat. South Shore University Hospital Emergency Medicine Chairman Dr. Sanjey Gupta says they have seen an increase in patients coming in with illnesses that appear to be related to the heat. He says people should go inside when they notice excessive sweating, body aches, weakness, nausea, muscle cramps and lightheadedness. "
