    Long-awaited free Oakland to Alameda water shuttle launches Wednesday

    ( KRON ) –  The Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle is set to launch on Wednesday. This free shuttle will take residents over the Oakland Estuary to Alameda or Oakland.

    The shuttle will operate between public docks at the foot of Broadway in the heart of Oakland's Jack London Square and Bohol Circle Immigrant Park.

    "We are excited to partner on this new, free, transit service that connects the Oakland and Alameda waterfronts and allows for enhanced visitor access to Jack London Square," said the Port of Oakland Chief Real Estate Officer Jonathan Veach.

    The water shuttle is a 45-foot yellow pontoon vessel named Woodstock . According to the press release, Woodstock will be active for the next two years and will operate from Wednesday through Sunday. The shuttle is set to offer 37 trips per day.

    The Port of Oakland says the trip will be under 10 minutes and is ADA-accessible. Riders can have bicycles on the shuttle.

    The first Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle ride will depart the Oakland dock at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
