( KRON ) — A motorcyclist was arrested on a number of charges last week in Oakland after fleeing from California Highway Patrol officers on the ground and being pursued by Alameda County Sheriff's Office air support.

On July 16 at around 7:30 p.m., CHP officers on patrol observed a motorcycle being ridden without license plates. While attempting to stop the motorcyclist, the rider chose to flee officers and start a pursuit, CHP said.

Alameda County sheriff's air support joined the chase, and after 10 minutes, the active CHP pursuit on the ground ended, authorities said. Updates on the motorcyclist's location as he rode throughout Oakland were provided to ground units by the air support until the biker came to a stop.

CHP units then responded to the rider's location and arrested him. The motorcycle was determined to be stolen, and the man was carrying an unregistered handgun, methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia, CHP said.

The suspect was booked into Santa Rita Jail on charges of felony possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of an unregistered firearm and drug-related offenses.
