Green Day Singer Makes Bizarre Statement Against Oakland Athletics' Move at Rogers Centre

It seems evident by now that the eventual move of the Oakland Athletics out of the city of Oakland has been met with not just criticism but anger by fans of the team. Now, even Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong has joined in making his frustrations known.

While backstage at the Rogers Centre, home of the Toronto Blue Jays, Armstrong posted a video of himself on his Instagram page spray-painting the letter "B" over the "A" in the A's logo down a corridor in the stadium.

Armstrong gives a quick smirk at the camera before he paints a green capitalized "B" over the "A," then gives a shush motion before the video ends.

The "B" refers to the Pioneer League team, the Oakland Ballers, which started up this year. Armstrong actually attended a Ballers game in early July to support the Oakland team.

Armstrong's allegiance to the city of Oakland is understandable given that he was born there and attended Pinole Valley High School. Like many disgruntled A's fans, Armstrong, while attending the June 13 game against the Tampa Bay Rays, known as the reverse boycott, showed up wearing a green shirt that read "SELL," protesting against team owner John Fisher's move of the team to Las Vegas.

Green Day is currently on "The Saviours Tour" and played at the Rogers Centre on Thursday night. Armstrong's painting of the logo is odd, however. This wasn't, after all, the A's stadium, making the act of damaging the property at another venue that has seemingly nothing to do with the A's puzzling.

The A's are currently dead last in the American League West at 45-65. They won't move to their new Las Vegas stadium until 2028. Until then, they'll play their home games at the Sutter Health Stadium, the home of the Sacramento River Cats, a Triple-A team, in West Sacramento, California.
