A rainy day is underway Monday, with a flash flood warning issued for parts of South Florida.

The National Weather Service said the flash flood warning, which is in effect until 3:15 p.m., pertains to many parts of Broward. The affected locations include Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs, Pompano Beach, Plantation, Sunrise, Tamarac, Margate, Lauderhill, Coconut Creek, Oakland Park, North Lauderdale and Lauderdale Lakes.

Earlier in the day, the weather service warned that a strong thunderstorm , with expected winds in excess of 40 mph, would affect portions of Broward and south central Palm Beach counties.

The weather service gave the following safety tips:

“These winds can down small tree limbs and branches, and blow around unsecured small objects. Seek shelter in a safe building until the storm passes.

“Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
    roadways.

“Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
