Attorney General Todd Rokita co-leads 17 states defending Indiana teacher’s religious liberty against required use of ‘preferred pronouns’
INDIANA- Attorney General Todd Rokita is co-leading 17 states in asking a federal appeals court to rule in favor of the religious liberty of a former Brownsburg High School teacher forced to resign because he declined to use the preferred names and pronouns of transgender students — an action that violated the teacher’s sincerely held beliefs.
Hoosier Lottery drawing produces two Indiana winners
Wednesday’s Hoosier Lottery drawing produced not one but two lucky winners in northern Indiana. Two $50,000 Powerball tickets were sold for the Wednesday drawing, one at Virk Liquors #8 in La Porte, located at 501 State St. The second was at Phil’s One Stop #21 in Fort Wayne at 3411 Lower Huntington Rd.

Isabel Renee Gripp of Carmel was among more than 600 students to cross the stage at the Oberlin College and Conservatory 2024 Commencement Ceremony in May. Gripp graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and History.

Carmel to cut the ribbon on Police Department expansion
Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam will play host to a ribbon cutting for the recently completed expansion of the Carmel Police Department (CPD). The renovation and expansion of the CPD headquarters will support the necessary growth in police department infrastructure that corresponds with the city’s increase in population over the past few decades. The addition will also house the Carmel City Court and Clerk’s Office, as well as their associated programs that will serve the community for generations to come. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 25 at the Police Department, 1000 S. Range Line Road.

Indianapolis Man Sentenced To 16 Years In Prison For Drug Possession And Aggravated Battery
On Friday, a narcotics possession charge and his involvement in an October 2021 shooting led to a 16-year prison sentence for an Indianapolis man. IMPD officers from the Northwest District responded to a report of a person shot on Oct. 18, 2021, in the 5500 block of W 38th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult female who had suffered gunshot wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. IMPD initiated an investigation into the incident shortly after.
