A new building in the Florida Crossroads Commerce Park in Marion Oaks has been sold to a Chicago-based cannabis company, which will use it for cultivation and processing. Here is what we know:

    Where is the building located?

The street address is 14130 SW 57th Ave. Road. This is inside the Florida Crossroads Commerce Park, which is south of County Road 484 about three miles west of Interstate 75.

Specifically, the building is within the boundaries of a portion of the commerce park called the Ocala South Logistics Park.

Who are the seller and buyer?

The seller is Ocala South Logistics I LLC, based in Kansas City, Missouri. It is part of Hunt Midwest , the development arm of the family that owns the Kansas City Chiefs.

The buyer is 14130 Ocala LLC, a newly formed company based in Chicago. Its authorized member is Cultivation Real Estate Holdings LLC, according to a state record. Cultivation's officers, George Archos and Darren Weiss, are leaders of Verano, which describes itself on its website as "one of the U.S. cannabis industry’s leading companies based on historical revenue, geographic scope and brand performance."

Two emails sent to Verano's media relations team were not returned.

    What was the purchase price?

It was $37 million, according to a deed on file with the court clerk.

What do we know about the site?

The building was built on spec and completed earlier this year. Several adjoining buildings are scheduled.

The Florida Crossroads Commerce Park as a whole covers more than 700 acres and currently is home to distribution centers for Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Pepsi.

What do we know about Verano?

According to the company website, "Verano’s active operations span 13 U.S. states, comprised of 13 production facilities with over 1,000,000 square feet of cultivation capacity."

    More cannabis in Marion County

Last month, a company associated with Innovative Industrial Properties Inc. paid $13 million for a 16-acre industrial parcel that will be transformed into an indoor cannabis cultivation site that will be operated by Miami-based AYR Wellness Inc. That property is on the east side of Northeast 36th Avenue, just north of Booster Stadium and south of Northeast 35th Street in Ocala.

Green Thumb Industries (the former Mark III plant west of Interstate 75 along the 5400 block of Northwest 44th Avenue) and Planet 13 (just west of U.S. 301 at the Marion-Sumter County line) also have cannabis cultivation and processing operations in Marion.
