But for Moncho and Dr. Christi Camblor, founders of Compassion Without Borders, the call of the road has a deeper purpose. This June, they embarked on a grueling journey, loading up their van with empty dog crates and heading into the blistering 118-degree heat of the Mojave and Sonoran deserts. Their destination: the Mexican border, where 28 dogs await rescue and a chance at a new life.
Santa Rosa Traffic Stop Turns Up Handgun and Cannabis
A handgun and cannabis were found during a traffic stop in Santa Rosa Tuesday afternoon. An officer pulled over a vehicle at the Corby Avenue off ramp at Highway 101 over a missing front license plate. Upon contacting the two occupants, the officer noticed a very strong odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle and saw loose bud scattered throughout the interior. A search of the vehicle revealed a single bullet in the center console and a privately manufactured pistol in the trunk. Elman Mejia Mazariegos and Husvardo Escobar Lopez were arrested and charged for crimes related to firearms and drugs. Lopez was also charged for an outstanding Contra Costa County warrant for felony vehicle theft.
Santa Rosa Police Get Top Honor from MADD for DUI Enforcement
Santa Rosa police have been named “2024 MADD Outstanding Agency of the Year” for their DUI Enforcement Efforts. Mothers Against Drunk Driving or MADD gave the department the recognition for their traffic safety and enforcement efforts in 2023. Last year, Santa Rosa police made 858 DUI arrests, an 85-percent increase from 2022. There were 27 officers who made 10 or more DUI arrests each in 2023, compared to 12 officers the year before. SRPD credit several tactics for their success including increased enforcement, DUI checkpoints, and community engagement events such as the popular “Know Your Limit” nights in Old Courthouse Square.

A July 14 dance competition in Sebastopol raised money for youth programs at the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center. Agave Mexican Restaurant in Healdsburg Ordered to Pay Back Wages
The owner of the Agave Mexican Restaurant in Healdsburg must pay nearly 83-thousand-dollars in back wages. After an investigation, the U.S. Department of Labor found restaurant owner and chef Octavio Diaz failed to pay three employees more than 35-thousand-dollars in overtime wages. Diaz must also pay more than eleven-thousand-dollars in civil penalties for violating the Fair Labor Standards Act. Agave, one of several food businesses owned by Diaz and his brother Pedro, has been open for the past 14 years.

Driver involved in Bay Bridge crash jumps off span into San Francisco Bay
A person involved in a crash on the Bay Bridge Thursday afternoon jumped into the bay after running from the crash scene and was eventually rescued by the Coast Guard, authorities said.A spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol told CBS News Bay Area said dispatchers were alerted at about 2:17 p.m. about a crash involving two vehicles heading east on the eastern span of the bridge.Spokesperson Mark Andrews said one of the vehicles rolled over in the collision and the male driver of that vehicle climbed out and began running east on the north shoulder just east of the suspension portion of the span east of Treasure Island.The person then jumped over the railing and into the water and was observed swimming, Andrews said. The Coast Guard was dispatched and the person was rescued. His condition was not immediately known.The second driver involved in the crash was not hurt and there were no other passengers in either car, Andrews said. The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately known.The crash temporarily blocked the two left lanes while the other three lanes remained open.

Father took his own life after allegedly killing toddler whose body was found in recycling facility
FREMONT, Calif. (TCN) -- A 42-year-old father who reportedly took his own life has been identified as a suspect in the death of his 3-year-old daughter. According to the Fremont Police Department, Ellie Lorenzo’s mother reported her daughter missing on July 12. The mother reportedly said the young girl was supposed to be returned to her during a custody exchange that night.
