HAZLET, NJ: Utilizing grants and low interest rate loans, the governing body in Hazlet has made much needed improvements over the last few years, providing great amenities for its residents. Among them to highlight a couple: The 8th Street Park Improvement Plan that transformed 8th Street Park into a multi-faceted park for all children called Freedom Park. It opened in October 2023. Six Pickleball courts and two Tennis Courts were installed in Veterans Park in July 2023. ShopRite is completely revamping one of its stores in central New Jersey, according to a new redevelopment plan proposed by officials. Holmdel-based Saker ShopRites, which owns and operates 39 ShopRite stores in Central Jersey and along the Jersey Shore, initially proposed building a brand new ShopRite in the parking lot of an existing store in Freehold Township.

New Jersey Little League softball coach upset about decision to end state title game: ‘Gut-wrenching’
A New Jersey 12U softball team’s hopes of reaching the Little League World Series were dashed last week after a controversial state championship game. The state championship between Toms River and Hanover Township was suspended due to lightning with Hanover leading 6-4. The game was stopped at the start of the sixth inning because of the weather, but tournament officials initially said the game would be played the next day.

19-year-old drowns while swimming in N.J. lake
A 19-year-old man drowned Saturday in Lake Garrison in Gloucester County, according to the Elk Township police chief. The Gloucester County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the man accidentally drowned, according to Elk Township Police Chief Lance Hitzelberger. The man was taken from the lake to Inspira Hospital in Mullica Hill, where he was pronounced dead, the chief said in a news release.

An Italian restaurant in Hanover Township, Northampton County, sustained significant damage due to a fire Sunday morning, according to the township fire chief. Firefighters responded at 9 a.m. Sunday to the fire at Nonna Sulina’s Sicilian Kitchen and Grill at 5000 Bath Pike, according to Hanover Township, Northampton County, Fire Chief Scott Van Why.
Mercer County Parks Hosts “Trenton Talks Basketball Tournament”, Drawing Over 250 Residents
Mercer County Park hosted the first Trenton Talks Basketball Tournament, with a portion of all proceeds going to benefit Trenton’s A Better Way foundation. The tournament brought out over 250 residents from Trenton and surrounding communities. 12 basketball teams competed for top honors. There was also a double-dutch jump rope contest, judged by Skil-Lit Café Owners Robert Wilborn and Dionna Maldonado.
