Fight for Firefighters Foundation shows support for 9-year-old boy with epilepsy
There was a show of support Wednesday for the child of an FDNY firefighter with special needs.Dino Scali, 9, has a form of epilepsy and other developmental delays and needs constant help to do everyday activities, and on Wednesday, a foundation went to Scali's home in Massapequa to help make his daily life a little easier.Dino and his 8-year-old sister Ella helped dozens of volunteer firefighters build an addition with a bathroom and ramp onto their home."I want to say we're lucky but it's so beyond that," said Dino's mom Jackie Scali.All materials were donated. Deep Roots Farmers Market returns this summer for its 10th anniversary. The market runs from June through October, supplying fresh and local produce to the community. The market has expanded to multiple locations and runs every weekend. Every Saturday, the market is open at Garvies Point in Glen Cove from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. On Sundays, Deep Roots is at Firefighters Park in Great Neck from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Port Washington piano students of Ruth Pleines’s multi-media studio were featured at the 44th annual recital on Saturday, June 8, at Shelter Rock Church in Manhasset. Family and friends enjoyed the pianists’ choice of solos and duets reflecting the various musical eras—Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary, including popular and jazz.
New York Islanders Re-Sign One of their RFAs
The New York Islanders have made another offseason move. The club have agreed on a one-year deal to bring back one of their restricted free agents. The 23-year-old Swedish forward Simon Holmstrom is the player coming back to the team after signing the contract. Roslyn School District Announces New Roles & Appointments for 24-25 School Year
The Roslyn School District is pleased to announce several new roles and appointments for the 24-25 school year. Harbor Hill Elementary School Assistant Principal Justin Gabrus will transition to the role of Assistant Principal at Roslyn Middle School. Mr. Gabrus joined the district in 2021. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Childhood Education from SUNY Old Westbury, and his Master of Science at Touro College. He also holds several certifications, including, School Building Leadership, Childhood Education, and Literacy.
Two Local Hospitals Ranked Among Best In The Nation
North Shore University Hospital and NYU Langone-Long Island were ranked among the best in the nation according to the U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Honor Roll. The U.S. News & World Report releases its annual Best Hospitals ranking to inform residents about their best care options. The list offers rankings in different healthcare services, such as cancer care, cardiology, and orthopedics. The national Honor Role recognizes hospitals with a wide range of excellence.
Porous Pavement Coming to Some Brooklyn Streets in Flood Prevention Test
The city is testing out a new form of green infrastructure to help prevent flooding in Brooklyn: porous pavement. Seven miles of porous pavement will be installed along a network of streets in Sunset Park, Kensington, and Midwood, city officials announced on Monday. When it’s finished, the $32.6 million project is expected to keep 35 million gallons of stormwater out of the sewers each year.

NEW YORK -- NYPD Probationary Officer Edgar Ordonez was laid to rest Thursday in the Bronx.
