    Lena/STAA girls finish second at Oconto Falls Invitational

    OCONTO FALLS — Several area schools were on hand at Thursday’s Oconto Falls Invitational.

    Eleven schools gathered for the annual competition. The homestanding Panthers topped Kewaunee for the top spot in the girls competition with 185 points, while the Kewaunee boys won with 155 points.

    Lena/Saint Thomas Aquinas Academy finished third in the girls competition with 91 points while Marinette (55.5) was fifth and Coleman (35) was seventh.

    Meanwhile the Coleman boys were third with 121 points, Marinette (85) was fourth and Lena/STAA (39) was seventh.

    The Lena/STAA girls dominated the jumps. The Wildcats got a win from Eva Brooks in the high jump.

    Brooks leapt 5’6, besting Coleman’s Vivian Kostreva’s 5’0 jump. Marinette’s Anna Marzahl was third at 4’6.

    Alabama Lambert added a Wildcat win in the long jump with a leap of 15’3.5, and in the triple jump Fischer finished as the runner-up with a PR of 31’6 while her teammate Della Kostreva was third at 31’5.

    Coleman’s Kiersten Jensen set a new meet record in the discuss with a personal best toss of 134’1 that was over 20 feet further than her nearest competition. The previous record of 132’0 was set by Mercer’s Sydney Thompson in 2016.

    The Cougars’ Kendal Truckey took third in the pole vault at 8’0.

    Marinette’s Nat Poquette and Jaydyn Sherwood both reached the finals of the shot put, finishing fifth (29’1.75) and eighth (28’5.75) respectively.

    The Marines picked up points in three of the four relays. The team of Madison Kunick, Anna Marzahl, Lauren Sadowski and Addison Lacy placed second in the 4x800m relay with a time of 11:09.62.

    Sadowski, Daisy Mercer, Keirsten Kabacinski and Bailey Krouth placed fourth in the 4x200m relay with a mark of 2:02.40, and Mercer, Kabacinski, Krouth and Kyle Vergara placed sixth in the 4x100m relay at 57.48 seconds.

    The Coleman combo of Truckey, Ella Van Emen, Vivian Kostreva and Lupita Cantu took third in the 4x100m at 55.60 seconds.

    Fischer and Brooks scored big for Lena/STAA in the hurdles, finishing second and third in the 100m distance with times of 18.33 and 18.70 seconds while Fischer was second in the 300m distance at 53.72 seconds.

    Marinette scored well in the mid and long-distance runs.

    Kunick was fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:52.99. Marzahl (6:14.84) and Kunick (6:26.40) finished third and fourth in the 1600m, and Addison Lacy was third in the 3200m at 13:03.82.

    In the boys field events, Caden Genrich put on a show in the throws. Genrich won the discus with a personal-best toss of 155’1, a mark that puts him in the top-50 in the State this season. In the shot put,

    Genrich finished as the runner-up with a PR of 46’11.

    Coleman’s Victor Kostreva won the pole vault, soaring 11’6 to top Marinette’s Jackson Draheim who bowed out after a vault of 11’0.

    Garrett Kreischer picked up second-place points for the Cougars in the high jump at 5’8.

    Lena/STAA’s Lucas Heimke was second in the triple jump after bounding 38’11.

    Marinette scored well in the relays, picking up a runner-up mark in the 4x200m where Jackson Draheim, Kaiden Brown, Braxton Polzin and Mason Hofherr moved the baton 800m in 1:34.77.

    Draheim, Brown, Nicholas Hruska and Hunter Schneider placed third in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:46.79, and Schneider, Brady Menor, Evan Reines and Aiden Queever placed fourth in the 4x800m relay at 10:01.74.

    Coleman placed three sprinters in the 100m finals. Dawson Patz won the event with a PR of 11.72 seconds while Darian Patz (12.17) and Micah Kuchta (12.21) placed fourth and sixth respectively.

    Marinette’s Kaiden Brown was the lone freshman to reach the finals, finishing third with a time of 11.97 seconds.

    Kuctha and Dawson Patz finished second and third in the 200m dash with times of 24.20 and 24.47 seconds.

    Hofherr won the 400m dash for Marinette with a personal best time of 53.94 seconds.

    Draheim brought home a runner-up finish in the 800m at 2:12.90.

    Coleman freshman Michael Rhode finished fourth in the 1600m run at 5:09.92 and fifth in the 3200m run at 11:17.22.

    Coleman will compete in a home meet on Monday. Marinette will compete in a North Eastern

    Conference Pentangular at Fox Valley Lutheran on Tuesday. Lena/STAA will join Marinette at the Peshtigo Invitational on Thursday.
