Bonduel bounces Oconto boys in Sectional semifinals

GREEN BAY — The season ground to a halt for the Oconto boys basketball team on Thursday, as sharp shooting by Bonduel propelled the Bears to a 76-59 victory in the semifinals of the WIAA Division 4 Sectional playoffs.

Bonduel (26-1) connected on a sizzling 58 percent of its shots from the field (35-of-60) and while the Bears were less lethal from deep, hitting just eight of 28 3-pointers, they did shoot an efficient 72 percent (8-11) from the foul line.

The No. 1-seeded Bears clawed their way to a 32-24 halftime lead and never looked back, outscoring No. 6 Oconto by a 44-35 gap in the second half.

Ryan Westrich and Race Anvelink combined to score 51 of Bonduel’s 76 points, with Westrich dropping a game-high 29 while Anvelink backed him up with 22.

Carter Koch was the Blue Devils’ top scorer with 16 points. Jackson Martin was close behind with 15, with Cooper Campshure pumping in 12 and Trenton Hartman notching nine.

Oconto wraps up the 2023-24 season with an overall record of 18-10.
