ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Ector County Independent School District is making progress on many of the projects that were proposed in the November Bond election that was partially passed by voters in November . Among those projects, two have been completed just seven months after approval.

The first of which is the $424 million resurfacing of the middle school tennis courts. Work began in April and finished in May at Bowie, Bonham, Crockett, Ector College Prep, Nimitz, and the Wilson & Young Medal of Honor Middle Schools. The school district said the courts now look sharp and are ready for the fall tennis season to begin in August.

The second bond project for ECISD to complete was the installation of 843 interactive flat panels in classrooms across 38 campuses, replacing the mounted projectors and touch screens that preceded them. ECISD said about half of the district’s classrooms already had the interactive panels, the approval of the 2023 bond simply allowed the rest of the classrooms to be equipped immediately.

According to ECISD, the panels tie in with a laptop for mobility, a monitor, and a docking station so everything is connected and runs through the keyboard and mouse. The teachers and students can also screen share from any device wirelessly and can be used as a whiteboard or connect to the internet. It includes many built-in tools, providing teachers more tools at their fingertips than ever before.

The school district also said updating the technology standard for classrooms is part of the strategic plan, stating that research showed the panels are today’s best displays for teachers.

All this comes as the Board of Trustees work to acquire land and finalize designs for the new middle school and CTE Center that was also approved by voters in November. You can learn more about the progress ECISD is making on these projects on its 2023 Bond website here .
