ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- UPDATED: Water has been restored to all of Odessa now that repairs have been made after a line broke overnight. The boil water notice will remain for at least 24 hours.
City leaders said crews will turn off the water to the entire City of Odessa and wanted to give residents “time to prepare”. This comes amid a water main break involving valves; crews cannot fix the break because they cannot shut off the valves to stop the flow of water.
Citizens should expect to lose water around 2:00 p.m. and everyone in Odessa will be without water for “a few hours”
Once water comes back online, Odessa will be under a boil water notice for at least 24-hours.
The City of Odessa alerted residents on Saturday morning, June 29 that the north side of town may experience low water pressure while repairs are being made on a water line break.
According to the city update, as of this Saturday morning, June 29, the 12-inch water line break that occurred on the 1800 block of East 46th Street, more specifically north of Highway 191 and 46th Street, is currently being repaired by city crews.
The city stated that the outages ‘should be isolated to the break area.’
Reporters at the scene spoke with the city water distribution agency crew members, who said that the repair crews have been outside working since 4 a.m. and that the team keeps finding broken valves while trying to turn off the water supply.
The repair team also stated that once the valves are fixed and ready to go they can turn it off and repair the water line, which they said typically takes around 2 hours.
The City of Odessa stated that updates on the situation will be shared when available.
