WILLIAMS, Arizona (KMID/KPEJ)- A new museum in northern Arizona tells stories of prehistoric animals through their fossilized poop.

The president and curator, George Frandsen, has been collecting the fossils known as coprolites (fossilized poop) for nearly three decades. His museum features roughly 7,000 specimens, including one suspected to be from a Tyrannosaurus rex. Frandsen holds two Guinness Book of World Records titles for parts of his collection.

“it was fascinating. It was funny. It was gross. But I learned very quickly it could tell us so much about our prehistoric past.” Frandsen said. “Coprolites are like little time capsules of the past. So what we can learn from them is.”

According to Frandsen, people are interested in seeing the coprolites. “So far the reception has been fantastic. People are really excited, especially young people. They come in and they’re excited to see old poo. They’re excited to see dinosaurs. It is really something that strikes a chord with a lot of young people and families that are visiting the area,” he said.
