ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- Mark Matta, councilman for District 1, with his wife by his side, issued a public apology Friday for “inappropriate” text messages he sent to a married woman. The apology came on the heels of a constituent asking Matta if he still lived in the district he represents after he was caught having “affairs”.

While Matta, who is up for reelection in November, did not address his living situation, he did ask for forgiveness from his wife, his family, the husband of the woman at the center of the text exchanges, as well as the community for behavior that he claimed ended more than a year ago.

You’ll find Matta’s full statement below:

Some community members have shown support for the councilman, while others have wondered about the timing of his apology and whether or not he’d engaged in such conduct with more than one person.
