ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Red Cross Permian Basin Chapter organization sent resources and help to the people who have been impacted by Hurricane Beryl.

The Red Cross Permian Basin Chapter is a local nonprofit organization with the American Red Cross, that specifically serves the Permian Basin and its counties; however, the local organization sent several resources and volunteers to help amid the natural disaster.

According to Tracey Austin, Executive Director of the Permian Basin Chapter, “The American Red Cross is always ready for a disaster and in this case, we were able to preposition assets such as volunteers, vehicles, sheltering equipment and all of that is there.”

Austin said that the Red Cross Permian Basin Chapter was able to send over 400 volunteers up and down the coast of Texas to provide aid to those impacted by the hurricane.

“We have over 400 volunteers who have volunteered up and down the coast of Texas and are there for people needed to evacuate or need shelter after this storm,” Austin said.

According to the American Red Cross organization website, volunteers carry out 90% of the humanitarian work for the Red Cross, and more are needed in every area.
