ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- An Odessa mom was arrested on a warrant earlier this month after a months long investigation that began when her newborn baby tested positive for methamphetamines. Ashley Garcia has been charged with endangering a child, a state jail felony.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, when Garcia’s baby was born in November of 2023, the infant tested positive for methamphetamines. That positive test triggered a Child Protective Services investigation and during that investigation, Garcia allegedly admitted to using drugs and not seeking prenatal care after she found out she was pregnant.

In December of 2023, the CPS case was turned over to OPD and a detective requested medical records to confirm that the child had tested positive when it was born. Upon confirmation earlier this year, the detective requested a warrant for Garcia’s arrest, and she was taken into custody on July 5.

Jail records show Garcia has since been released from the Ector County Law Enforcement Center after posting a $6,000 surety bond.
