2025 TxDOT Unified Transportation Plan open for comments

In early July, TxDOT published the draft 2025 Unified Transportation Plan for public comments. This year the only additions were projects either added through utilization of locally available programmed funding, as well as, $61 million in additional funding for I-20 and $164 million in additional funding for US 285.

Over the last several years, there has been a lot of funding allocated to I-20 and US 285. Both of those are great projects and all the funding the department has allocated is appreciated, a Midland-Odessa Transportation Alliance (MOTRAN) news release said.

However, there are still a lot of needs in the Permian Basin and Odessa District outside those two corridors. While Interstate funding in Midland-Odessa on I-20 is critical, there are also tremendous needs to complete Loop 250 and make aggressive strides on Loop 338. In Reeves County, the department has already allocated $446 million to expand US 285 north from FM 1216 to RM 652, but building the Pecos Reliever Route is just as important, the release said.

Again, we don’t want to sound ungrateful, but now, more than ever before, it is important for the Texas Department of Transportation to hear from you about all the projects of importance in this region, as they craft future plans. In the past 5 years, the Permian Basin has provided nearly $11 billion in severance tax transfers to the state highway fund, with 70% of that coming from the 12 county TxDOT Odessa District, the release said.

Fill out the form to make your voice heard and let them know about how important additional funding is and the needs we see on Loop 250, Loop 338, various reliever routes in the region, and other high priority corridors like SH 158, SH 302, and SH 349, just to name a few.
