ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A Pecos man was arrested earlier this month after investigators said he allegedly assaulted a runaway teen from Odessa earlier this year. Angel Gomez Nunez, 25, has been charged with Sexual Assault of a Child, a second-degree felony.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, on April 24, officers were called to Medical Center Hospital after a patient and her mother visited the emergency room and asked for a Sexual Assault Nurse Exam (SANE). There, a 16-year-old girl told investigators she’d run away from home in mid-April and had returned on April 24; during her time away from home, the teen said she was assaulted by Nunez, a family friend.

According to the teen, Nunez picked her up and took her to Days Inn, located on N John Ben Sheppard Parkway, and assaulted her. The girl said that Nunez refused to take her to the hospital after the assault and instead took her to his home in Pecos.

On May 2, officers spoke with Nunez, who reportedly admitted to having sex with the teen and investigators said they found revealing pictures of the teen on Nunez’s phone. Based on that information, investigators requested a warrant for Nunez’s arrest, and he was taken into custody on July 11 and has since been released from the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on a $25,000 bond.
