Ector County Republican Chair preps for election season on heels of RNC

ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The November election is just a little under three and a half months away and as we’re gearing up towards Super Tuesday, the Ector County Republican Party is prepping for the big day.

Ector County Republican Party Chair, Donna Kelm, said that the mission of the party in Odessa is to bring good reputable candidates to voters. And while many have already announced they will run for local office, Kelm said the party will not endorse any candidate.

“As far as the Party itself we will not endorse any of the candidates. We want to let the voters to decide,” said Kelm. “We want the voters to know who’s running for what office, what they are about and that way they can make a good clear decision of who they want to be their candidate for that position.”

What the Chair will be doing however is hoisting meet and greets as well as forums in the future for these candidates. This will give voters an opportunity to interact with and see the candidates that they may potentially vote for come November.

When it comes to voter turnout, Kelm was very vocal about the low turnout in the March primaries earlier this year. According to Kelm, only 11,000 voters in Ector County showed up at the polls.

“People are complaining what’s going on in Ector County and what’s going on in our nation, you got to step up, you got to go vote.”

She said the most important thing the Party will do ahead of November is work to get the voters to the polls.

Unity was a word that Kelm was very passionate about, it’s something that she heard Republican Vice President Elect JD Vance use in his speech at the Republican National Convention Wednesday.

“Unity. We’ve got to bring the country together; we’ve got to bring Ector County together. This fight and dividing among the Republicans is not the way to go,” said Kelm on bringing the country together. “Unless we want another four more years of what we’ve just lived through, and I don’t believe that’s what anyone in Ector County wants, or the nation.”
