ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- The Texas Rangers are investigating after an Ector County jail inmate died early Sunday morning.

According to Sheriff Mike Griffis, Joe Daniel Miranda was arrested by the Odessa Police Department on July 20 on suspicion of trespassing and public intoxication. Miranda was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center and was later found unresponsive in a cell.

Griffis said jail personnel began CPR and continued with life saving measures until an ambulance arrived. Miranda was then taken to Medical Center Hospital where he was pronounced dead by emergency room staff.

Miranda’s body has been sent for an autopsy and the Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation as is protocol in these circumstances.
