New information has been released about the West Texas manhunt case that happened in April. Reports shed light on how a man wanted for the murder died.

Trevor James Myrick was pronounced dead April 16 after a multi-agency search ended with an officer-involved shooting in Irion County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety at the time.

The manhunt started when the 26-year-old of Hobbs, New Mexico, allegedly confronted a homeowner, 74-year-old Ronald Wayne Irvin, in Odessa and a struggle ensued, officials said.

Myrick shot and killed the homeowner and took his vehicle, according to allegations on the Ector County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

After a cross-country pursuit and then an overnight search for Myrick after he fled on foot, DPS troopers located him near the intersection of Duncan Avenue and North Broadway Street in Mertzon.

The Irion County Sheriff's Office received a call concerning a suspicious person riding a bicycle. After troopers made contact with the man, they believed him to be the wanted subject.

At the time of the incident, officials said it was an officer-involved shooting that took place, but the investigation was ongoing.

According to the custodial death report the DPS filed with the Texas Attorney General of Texas, Myrick's death was a suicide.

Troopers shot at him as he entered a resident's backyard, according to the report.

"A short time later, Troopers heard a gunshot," the report stated. "Upon entering the backyard, the Troopers discovered the wanted suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head."

Myrick's death date and time was listed at April 16 at 3:59 p.m.

According to the custodial death report, Myrick was suspected of capital murder, evading and theft of property.

The DPS also filed an officer-involved shooting report with the AG's Office in connection with the case.

Three male peace officers were listed as involved in the shooting, including a 34-year-old, a 27-year-old and a 42-year old.

Sgt. Justin Baker, DPS spokesman, was asked further questions regrading the officer-involved shooting report. Baker declined to respond to the questions.

He said the report was handed over to the Texas Attorney General's office and was still under investigation.
