ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- UPDATE: Odessa Fire Rescue has confirmed a fire broke out at Permian Basin Containers, located at 819 W 81st Street, early Tuesday morning.

The immediate area on 81st Street from Erron to Golder has been evacuated but OFR said there is no danger or harmful fumes.

A Red Cross evacuation center has been established at Connections Church on Tanglewood and Penbrook for those who have been evacuated.

The Ector County Sheriff’s Office has asked for people in the area of 81 st Street and West County Road to evacuate the area amid a large oilfield fire that broke out overnight.

“At this time, we do know what chemicals are burning and we do not know what hazards are in the air. Our units are going around requesting people in the area to please leave the area until the fire is out. If you are in this area, please leave. If you know people in the area please let them know that we are asking them to leave the area,” ECSO said in a statement.

These evacuations are not mandatory but deputies are going door-to-door asking people to leave.

Fire crews responded to a fire in north Odessa early Tuesday morning in the area of West County Road and 81 st Street.

While officials have not yet responded to requests for information, residents in the area reported explosions and loss of electricity and said flames seemed to be coming from an industrial business in the area.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
