OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (WWTI) – Firefighters helped a family in Ogdensburg escape from their home after a fire on Tuesday night.

In a post on the Ogdensburg Fire Department’s Facebook page, firefighters responded to a call just before 7:20 p.m. on the 900 block of David Street in the city. The first floor of the structure had what officials called a “heavy volume of fire.”

The occupants made it out of the residence and the family dog was pulled from the fire. Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad members along with a host of bystanders at the scene helped the dog administering oxygen with a special mask designed for pets.

The fire was eventually declared out and units were put back into service just after 9 p.m. The Ogdensburg Fire Department was assisted by the Heuvelton Fire Department, Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and Morristown Volunteer Fire Department, which was on standby.
