Dixon man pleads not guilty to attempted murder of three Ogle County deputies
OREGON – A rural Dixon man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to the attempted murder of three police officers during a June 12 shooting incident in his Lost Lake home. Jonathon Gounaris, 32, through his attorney, Ogle County Public Defender William Gibbs, pleaded not guilty to four counts of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, three counts of aggravated battery and two counts of possession of a firearm without a firearm owner’s identification card.

Freeport Road Construction Underway
POLO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that construction on Freeport Road in Ogle and Whiteside counties is underway. The work zone is from East Lynn Boulevard in Sterling to West Sterling Road south of Polo. Daily lane closures are expected as crews patch, mill, and resurface the road. The $3.3 million project is scheduled to be completed in November.
Two Charged After Route 2 Traffic Stop
OREGON - Ogle County Sheriff’s Deputies cited two occupants of a vehicle who were traveling on Illinois Route 2 near Oregon Monday morning. Authorities say a 36-year-old Mississippi man was arrested for Driving While License Suspended and Possession of Cannabis/Improper Container/Driver. A 32-year-old man from Robbins was arrested for Possession of a Firearm without a FOID. Both were taken to the Ogle County Jail and released with a notice to appear.
