Cooper Farms sets 17th annual Turkey Trot
ST. HENRY — At 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, Cooper Farms Turkey Harvesting Plant will play host to it 17th annual Turkey Trot 5K, benefitting EverHeart Hospice. “We’ve really gotten to a point where people look forward to this event every year, and for good reason,” said race organizer Eydie Kramer. “It’s a chance to get together and raise money for a great local cause, all while exercising and eating a delicious meal when you’re finished.”
Hopson named athletic director at Bowsher
Dennis Hopson is returning to his alma mater. The City League Hall of Famer has been named the athletic director at Bowsher High School, Toledo Public Schools announced Monday. The 1983 Bowsher graduate is Ohio State’s all-time leading scorer. He was named the Big Ten player of the year in 1986-87 and went on to play 13 seasons of professional basketball, including five in the NBA. In 1991, Hopson won a championship with the Chicago Bulls. Most recently, Hopson was the head men’s basketball coach at Lourdes for five seasons, resigning that post last week.
Toledo women's golf coach Jenny Coluccio resigns to pursue new opportunity
University of Toledo women’s golf coach Jenny Coluccio announced on Monday that she is resigning from her post, a position she has held the past six years. According to the school’s news release, Coluccio is leaving the Rockets’ program to pursue a new professional opportunity. "Leaving this program, Toledo, and coaching, is very bittersweet," Coluccio said. “The experiences and relationships I've built here and in coaching will always hold a special place in my heart, with the players being at the top of that list. Every one of them have a special place in my heart and have shaped me to who I am today. I also want to give a special thanks to [athletic director] Bryan Blair and [women's golf administrator] Nicole Alderson, whose exceptional leadership and guidance are taking Toledo to new heights. I am grateful for everything I've learned in this profession and to all the people I have had the privilege to know along the way. Here's to new beginnings and lasting memories.” Coluccio guided the Rockets to four tournament titles as well as runner-up finishes at the MAC Championships in 2019 and 2024 during her six years at the school.

Maumee council agrees to start reimbursing residents for sewer repairs
A majority of Maumee Council has approved a new policy establishing a grant program to help residents with some sewer repairs, as many citizens continue to rage against city leaders. At Monday’s meeting, council voted 5-2 to authorize City Administrator Patrick Burtch to set parameters and establish a grant program for repair or replacement of sewer laterals or lines in the public right of way. Mayor Jim MacDonald said the money for the grants will come out of recent sewer rate increases. The grant program will immediately assist 50 people affected by a short-lived council ordinance that required sewer inspections before homes were sold.
Road closures for Tour de Donut and Donut Jam
TROY – To facilitate the setup, tear down, and events of the Donut Jam concerts and Tour de Donut event, there will be several road closures on August 23 and 24. On Friday, August 23, the southeast quadrant of the Public Square, the spaces in the N. Cherry Street parking lot, and the REC parking lot will be closed to public parking starting at 7:00 a.m.
