DOVER, OH- On a hot and muggy night at Crater Stadium the Tornadoes cruise by to defeat visiting Canton South 31-3, as some schools chose a delayed start or cancellation due to extreme heat to start week two of high school football, not Dover.

Canton South started out the game with a drive into Dover territory after chewing up most of the clock on the heels of senior running back Zion Culver but would not convert turning the ball over on downs inside the 25 yard line with 4:42 to go in the quarter.

Dover wasted no time driving down the field to score its first touchdown of the game off the legs of junior quarterback Jack Judkins, a 13 yard rush with 2:17 left in the first quarter, the quarter would end with South going three and out trailing 7-0.

Opening up the second quarter it would be a tale of coming up empty as neither team would land in the endzone, both teams converting field goals Dover a 36 yarder by Jameson Marlatt and a 30 yard field goal by South's junior Landon White, Dover up 10-3 at the half.

The second half would be all Dover as they would pitch a 21-0 shutout scoring on two passing touchdowns from QB Jack Judkins to senior wide receiver Blayke Ring and junior Justice Hughes and a mid quarter scamper by senior wide receiver Caden Schie.

"You know the corners they would come up in like cover two and just hit em over top and we had holes, the offensive line was creating gaps all night," Judkins said.

Longtime Dover Head Coach Dan Ifft who has 30 years of coaching spoke highly of his junior QB, "He just came back a few weeks ago, he had been out with a baseball injury his shoulder so second scrimmage he came back," Ifft said. "Had a wonderful game last week he's a tremendous competitor and obviously had a wonderful game this evening."

Ifft also spoke on his time as a coach being asked what keeps him going.

"Well I like the kids they make me feel young," Ifft said.

Canton South starting out 0-2 with a very young team will suit up at home versus Eastmoor Academy out of Columbus as Dover prepares for a road game against Millersburg West Holmes to try and go 3-0 to start the 2024 season.
