TWISP -- The Okanogan County Search and Rescue (OCSAR) team is set to host a fundraising event this Thursday, July 11, at 1908 BBQ & Bourbon located at 101 N Glover Street in downtown Twisp. Level 2 (Be Set!) evacuations issued for brush fire near Omak
OMAK, Wash. – A brush fire near Omak has caused level 1 evacuations to be issued for nearby residents. Okanogan County Emergency Management reported that the fire, situated near Sand Flat Road and north of Engh Road, is spreading south, east, and west. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and mindful of emergency vehicles in the area. No information has been given the size of the fire yet.
Evacuations dropped for brush fire in Omak
OMAK, Wash. — Okanogan County Emergency Management reports that all evacuations have been dropped concerning the brush fire near Sand Flat Road. Roads currently closed include: Engh Road, east of Sand flat Road to Vista View Road, Red Apple Road, Orchard View Road and Sand Flat Road south of State Route 97.
Twisp police chief candidate visits for interviews
A candidate to fill the position of Twisp police chief visited the valley last week for interviews and to meet with other law enforcement officials. Jay King was chosen from among three finalists for the position, after a second round of interviews. He attended last week’s Town Council meeting, and met with Winthrop Marshal Ty Sheehan and Okanogan County Sheriff Paul Budrow.
Malden veteran pays kindness forward
MALDEN - A local veteran was recognized for assisting another veteran's widow in Okanogan County by congress members during a Town Council on June 11. Veterans aides Doug Huff for Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Hank Cramer for Rep. Dan Newhouse presented resident and veteran Mark Butler letters of appreciation.
Two adult common loons, chicks shot in Okanogan County
CHESAW, Wash. — The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is investigating an incident where two adult common loons and their chicks were shot. WDFW said the common loons were shot by someone in Okanogan County near Chesaw, Washington. WDFW said non-governmental organizations are offering a $6,000 reward for information leading to convictions.
