Rep. Sharice Davids Highlights Kansas Trap Shooter Derrick Mein’s Journey Ahead of 2024 Paris Olympics
On the eve of the 2024 Paris Olympic opening ceremony, Representative Sharice Davids released a video of her conversation with Derrick Mein, Kansas’ sole athlete in the 2024 Games. Mein, from Paola, KS, will compete in trap shooting. This is his second Olympic appearance, following his gold medal win at the 2022 Shotgun World Championship in Osijek, Croatia.

Madison’s Boomtown Cafe to close, future of Harry C’s Gasoline Alley to be evaluated
One eatery in downtown Madison is closing its doors, and the long-term future of another is unclear. Boomtown Cafe will close after lunch Aug. 2 after 14 months of operation. In a social media post, the restaurant says “we simply are not generating enough sales to support continued operations.” Owners are encouraging people who may be interested in taking over the Boomtown operations to reach out and discuss plans.

Olathe woman injured after Lee’s Summit vehicle tailgates SUV along K-10
LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - An Olathe woman was injured in a collision on K-10 southwest of Lawrence after a Lee’s Summit vehicle tailgated and then rear-ended an SUV. The Douglas County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Office says that around 3:50 p.m. on Friday, July 26, emergency crews were called to the area of K-10 and Wakarusa Dr., along the South Lawrence Trafficway near the Clinton Lake Youth Sports Complex, with reports of a 2-vehicle collision.
