JONES, Okla. ( KFOR ) — The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office filed formal charges Monday against a woman accused of giving her mother a gun to commit suicide last year.
The new documents outline much of what was already known about the September 10th incident. Documents say Oklahoma City police officers responded to the Quail Ridge neighborhood regarding a death where the victim died by means of suicide.
Documents say the investigation uncovered evidence that Lynda Watts’ 44-year-old daughter. Jaye Dee intentionally provided her the firearm used.
They identify Jaye Dee as Lynda’s caretaker and outline what led up to the incident, captured on cameras inside of the home and obtained by police through a search warrant.
Documents say Jaye Dee can be seen retrieving the loaded firearm and giving it to Lynda. Documents say Jaye Dee demonstrated to Lynda how to remove the handgun from the holster and then said something to the effect of, “Do with it what you {expletive} will, {expletive}.”
Documents say Lynda retrieved the firearm after Jay Dee left the room and went to retrieve a tool kit. Documents say Jaye Dee threatened to lock Lynda in her room and to “make due” with what she had.
Documents also make note of ridiculing on Jaye Dee’s part to Lynda the day of the incident such as making comments that she was “raising a 72-year-old toddler” and to choke on her medication “and die.”
“She seemed very nice,” a neighbor told News 4 off-camera Monday regarding Lynda. “In fact, I would ask how she was doing.”
The neighbor told News 4 the family had been living in the home for a few decades and that Jaye Dee had moved back into the home to take care of her mother after previously moving away. The neighbor said they initially took the loss hard.
“It’s been very difficult on me,” said the neighbor.
Documents said after Lynda had died Jaye Dee sent an acquaintance several text messages police obtained. In the text message thread, documents say Jaye Dee said “we’re doing a cleanse.” Documents say she admitted in the texts to throwing the gun onto Lynda’s bed and said she took a lock from a shed and was going to lock “her” inside once a drill charged.
Jaye Dee Watts has been charged with felony murder, kidnapping and for aiding suicide by furnishing a weapon.
