OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) – Many people were hit hard by Tuesday night’s storms, including one northeast Oklahoma City woman. She told KFOR her apartment unit roof collapsed and now she’s trying to figure out her next move.

“This being the first room that fell in,” Kaylin Roberts’ said as she showed KFOR the damage inside. “This is my sons’ room.”

Her sons’ room only ended up being the beginning of her worries during Tuesday night’s storms.

“After that it pretty much went on into my master bedroom over there where the roof is also completely gone at this point,” Roberts said. “It just started to just fall down throughout the apartment.”

Insulation and some sheet rock covered her apartment a day later all after the heavy downpour and high winds brought it down.

“All of a sudden it sounded like the rain was in the house,” she said.

That sound, coming from her son’s bedroom that night. Roberts said it scared him.

“I was cooking, and he was like ‘momma, my room it sounds scary, it doesn’t sound right,’” she said.

She originally thought the window blew out, but when she checked it, that’s when the roof came down while both were inside.

“He almost got hit by this sheet over here, but I grabbed him out of the way,” she added.

From there, the roof started falling throughout the apartment.

“I immediately started trying to salvage my clothes more than anything,” said Roberts.

The next day she contacted her apartment and got a call that afternoon.

“I was informed that I can move out or I can wait until a unit is ready,” she said.

Roofers could be seen putting up a temporary tarp on Wednesday. However, Roberts said she works from home and isn’t sure what she’s going to do right now. She’s left with a mess inside and is looking for help to get out for the time being.

“I just got to keep on pushing and figure out what I’m going to do going forward,” she said.

We checked with the owners of The Links. They told us they offered Roberts another 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment Wednesday and told her she could move in Thursday. They said she declined that offer and she confirmed that with us Thursday afternoon.

She also said she considers this a learning experience because she said she wasn’t “prepared” with renters insurance.
