An Oklahoma City police officer was shot in an hours-long standoff Tuesday morning at a home near NW 36 and Pennsylvania Avenue, the Oklahoma City Police Department reports. The suspect has been neutralized, according to the department's public information officer.

Officers were called to a disturbance about 9:15 a.m. in the 2200 block of W Eubanks Street, where a man was reportedly holding a gun to someone's head, Capt. Valerie Littlejohn said.

Police say the suspect was barricaded in the home and fired shots out toward police, and a couple of officers returned fire.

During the incident, one officer was shot and taken to a nearby hospital, Littlejohn said, and had a successful surgery.

During the incident, an officer was able to discharge his firearm, striking the suspect. The suspect was determined deceased at the scene, Littlejohn said.

Through the morning, law enforcement learned that other people were inside the home. Officers worked to negotiate with the suspect for several hours to peacefully remove them from the scene, Littlejohn said.

About 11:45 a.m., officers made their way into the home and removed five people from the house, three children and two women, Littlejohn said. None of them were injured.

The police department is still working to determine what led up to the event.

The officers who discharged their firearms are placed on administrative leave with pay, Littlejohn said.

The department has not yet released the name of the suspect.
