After days of "dangerously hot" weather, including temperatures breaking 100 degrees in some parts of the state, a cold front will move into Oklahoma this week bringing much-needed summertime relief.

A weak front will arrive from the north on Tuesday evening and some rainfall and possible thunderstorms may come with it, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Norman.

The stronger cold front will push into Oklahoma on Wednesday.

    Heat wave nearly over

A heat wave that has baked Oklahoma for the past week will be overtaken by the cold front, but not until Wednesday.

Until then, Oklahomans should continue to expect "dangerously hot weather" on Monday, the National Weather Service said in its forecast. A heat advisory is expected for Tuesday, as well.

So far in 2024, most of Oklahoma has seen over 30 days where the high temperature reached 90 degrees, according to data collected by the Oklahoma Mesonet.

    This week's Oklahoma City forecast

    • Monday: Sunny with a high near 102 degrees; the heat index may reach 106
    • Tuesday: High near 103 degrees with a small chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon
    • Wednesday: High near 91 degrees with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening
    • Thursday: High near 87 degrees and a chance of thunderstorms
    • Friday: Sunny with a high near 90 degrees
    • This weekend: The cold front will continue to keep temperatures below 90 and offer a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday
