    UScellular offering free calls

    To help connect family, friends and loved ones, UScellular is offering customers free calls from the United States to countries impacted by Hurricane Beryl through July 31.

    Any outbound calls made to Windward Islands, Grenada, The Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Mexico, Tulum and surrounding areas only, will have no international dialing rates applied.

    Postpaid customers will have charges automatically waived. Prepaid customers whose plans allow for international dialing can call customer service at 1-888-944-9400 or *611 from their mobile phone to receive credits for applicable calls.

    Shawnee unveils new sculpture

    The UFP Packaging of Shawnee is pleased to announce the unveiling of "Splinter," the latest addition to the Shawnee Painted Horses project.

    Created by Edmond artist and former Shawnee High graduate Katherine Sanders, "Splinter" now stands at the entrance of UFP Packaging's Shawnee facility at 8702 N Harrison. The sculpture features monochromatic beige and brown tones, simulating wood grain.

    Nichols Hills Band to wrap up season

    The Nichols Hills Band will close its 41st season of free outdoor concerts with a final performance at 7:30 p.m. July 18 in Kite Park, 1500 Camden Way in Nichols Hills.

    The band, made up of musicians from throughout the metro area, including Oklahoma City, Edmond and Norman, will present a variety of selections arranged for band, including pop, jazz and Broadway tunes.

    Camp Inferno accepting applications

    Camp Inferno has opened the application process for a two-day fire service introduction camp for women Oct. 5-6 at the Oklahoma City Fire Department Training Center. Application will be accepted through July 31.

    The camp will cover hiring requirements and recommendations, physical fitness, gear and tools, skills including forcible entry, search and rescue, ladders, auto extrication, hose handling, ventilation, heat introduction with a live burn, and insight from over 30 professional female firefighters from at least eight different Oklahoma departments.

    Open to all women 18+ who are interested in a career in the fire service.

    Hot air balloons return to Shawnee’s skies

    The Citizen Potawatomi Nation’s (CPN) FireLake Fireflight Balloon Fest is returning to Shawnee on Aug. 9-10 at Raymond Peltier Park, 1702 S Gordon Cooper Drive.

    The annual hot air balloon festival is free and includes entertainment, including a 5k race, kids’ carnival rides, a vendor market and live music.

    Guests looking for adventure will have the chance to experience a tethered hot air balloon ride, beginning at 7 p.m. on both days and at $20 per person.
