Bravo's Mi Sonrisa ready for Remington Park meet

OKLAHOMA CITY Trainer Francisco Bravo had the first horse on the track Tuesday morning for Remington Park’s upcoming meet.

The filly, named Mi Sonrisa, might live up to her name, which means "My Smile" in English.

Mi Sonrisa, a 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred daughter of Caleb’s Posse and R Lady Hansen, has raced twice this summer at Lone Star Park in Texas, finishing third in both outings. On June 9, she ran 6 furlongs, losing by 5-1/4 lengths. She improved at one mile on July 12, leading deep into the stretch before finishing 2-1/4 lengths behind.

“That was against open maiden competition,” said Bravo, 69, who owns River Oaks Farms in Sulphur with his wife, Lori.

Bravo’s top horse, Dame Plata, an 8-year-old gelding, is expected to run at Remington Park this meet. Dame Plata has earned $429,188 with 12 wins in 42 starts.

The Bravos narrowly escaped tornadoes at Will Rogers Downs in May and Sulphur in April. Despite the challenges, they are optimistic about a strong meet at Remington Park, which begins Aug. 16.
