OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education kicked off the search for the next higher education chancellor on Wednesday.

The regents established a search process to replace Higher Education Chancellor Allison Garrett following the July 2 announcement of her retirement. Garrett has served as chancellor for three years and will continue in the role until Jan. 2 at the latest.

In a tentative timeline presented to the regents at Wednesday’s meeting, the job will be posted Aug. 1, and the board hopes to select a final candidate by mid-October or early November.

Regent Dennis Casey, chair of the board, expressed hope that the search will be national and reach from “coast to coast.”

The board has not made a decision on whether it will utilize a third party firm to aid in the search for candidates.

In the meantime, the search for a permanent vice chancellor for academic and student affairs has been postponed until a candidate for chancellor is selected.

Stephanie Beauchamp will continue serving as interim vice chancellor with an increased monthly stipend of $3,000. Beauchamp has been serving in this role since May 31 when the previous vice chancellor, Robert Placido, resigned.
