Breakdancing, skateboarding and sport climbing are among the events at the 2024 Paris Games, but notably absent is a sport near and dear to our hearts: softball.

Neither softball nor baseball will be played in these Summer Olympics, but the countdown is already on for 2028 , when Oklahoma City will host Olympic softball at Devon Park .

Last week, Team USA lost to Japan in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup gold medal game in Italy, but the Americans will be the team to beat on their home soil in 2028.

Given OU’s domination with four straight national championships and OSU’s streak of five consecutive appearances in the Women’s College World Series, it made me think, with Olympic softball coming to OKC, why not keep things real close to home with a roster filled entirely with Sooners and Cowgirls.

It’s crazy, yes, but not crazy to think a 15-player Bedlam squad could go for gold.

    Pitchers

RHP Lexi Kilfoyl, OSU, Land O’ Lakes, Florida

Kilfoyl, who spent two seasons at OU after transferring from Alabama, went 26-5 with a 1.20 ERA in her final season with the Cowgirls. She was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Year.

LHP Kelly Maxwell, OU/OSU, Friendswood, Texas

The former Cowgirl ace turned Sooner national champion is the perfect pitcher for this team. Maxwell was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2024 Women’s College World Series. She pitched for Team USA in the recent World Cup.

LHP Keilani Ricketts, OU, San Jose, California

The two-time USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and 2013 national champion still pitches with the OKC Spark and in the Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball league . Ricketts will be 36 four years from now, but we saw Team USA legends Monica Abott and Cat Osterman pitch into their late 30s.

    Catchers

    Kinzie Hansen, OU, Norco, California

The former Sooners captain already has plenty of Team USA experience, winning a gold medal in the 2022 World Games. She won the Johnny Bench Award in 2023 as the nation’s top catcher.

    Caroline Wang, OSU, Paris, Tennessee

Wang spent one season at OSU after transferring from Liberty. She led the Cowgirls in batting average (.375), home runs (17) and RBI (51). She committed just two errors.

    Infielders

    Jocelyn Alo, OU, Hauula, Hawaii

The Home Run Queen. Alo hit a record 122 dingers in her college career, 19 more than anyone else. She’s the all-time leader in slugging percentage, ranks second in RBIs and fifth in runs.

    Rachel Becker, OSU, Lindenhurst, Illinois

Becker hit .443 in her one season at OSU after transferring from Purdue. She was an All-American with the Cowgirls, a first-team All Big 12 selection and a top-25 finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. Becker has played professionally with Athletes Unlimited.

    Alyssa Brito, OU, Tustin, California

The Sooners third baseman hit .399 last season with 18 home runs and 61 RBIs. She led OU with a 1.292 OPS (on-base plus slugging).

Karli Godwin, OSU, Lake Waccamaw, N.C.

She just finished her freshman season, but Godwin showed enough promise (and power) to make the cut. Godwin hit .340 with 15 home runs and 51 RBI.

Tiare Jennings, OU, San Pedro, California

The four-year Sooners national champion just won a silver medal with Team USA at the World Cup. Jennings holds the record for most career RBIs at the Women’s College World Series. She’s third on college softball’s all-time home runs list with 98.

    Kiley Naomi, OSU, Lafayette, Louisiana

OSU’s all-time leader in runs scored, Naomi is one year removed from a senior season in which she hit a career-high .366 with 65 RBI. Naomi also stole 71 bases in her Cowgirl career, making her a viable pinch runner.

    Outfielders

Jayda Coleman, OU, The Colony, Texas

Coleman is an easy choice as an elite center fielder and on-base machine at the top of the lineup. The four-time national champion was a World Cup gold medalist on the USA’s under-19 team in 2019.

    Chyenne Factor, OSU, Yukon

There has to be at least one Oklahoman on the list, and Factor is more than an honorary selection. A five-year starter for OSU, Factor was a career .334 hitter and a three-time All Big 12 selection.

    Ella Parker, OU, Los Angeles

Parker was a full-time designated player as a freshman at OU, but she was a center fielder in high school. Parker has an intriguing power-speed combination, stealing a team-high 17 bases last season with 13 home runs. Parker led OU with a .415 average and figures to be a fixture in the Sooner lineup for years to come.

    Kasidi Pickering, OU, Humble, Texas

Like Parker, Pickering is set to enter her sophomore season at OU. As a freshman, Pickering hit .389 with 12 home runs. She was OU’s primary right fielder.
