    Sunbeam Family Services provides over 175 ‘grandfamilies’ with school supplies

    OKLAHOMA CITY ( KFOR ) — Sunbeam Family Services hosted an event at the First Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City Saturday morning providing school supplies to assist grandparents who raise their grandchildren.

    More than 175 grandfamilies and over 400 grandchildren received school supplies in preparation for the upcoming school year.

    Several nonprofit organizations, Oklahoma City Police Department, Oklahoma County Sherriff’s Office, OG&E, and resource booths were also in attendance for the event.

    The grandchildren were able to choose a new backpack which was filled with school supplies. Free face painting, family fun activities, games and “Touch-a-Truck,” which gave the children an opportunity to interact with a fire truck, police cars and a helicopter.

    Sunbeam Family Services helps grandparents who are raising their grandchildren through their Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program .

    The program provides support groups, school supply assistance, educational seminars, holiday assistance, and additional resources for grandparents who need it.

    Sunbeam Family Services is one of Oklahoma’s longest-serving nonprofits that provides help to Central Oklahoma families and children through family systems that include mental health services, programs for foster families, grandparents raising their grandchildren, early care and education, and other services.
