Police officers came to the rescue after a horse fell into a swimming pool.

The team from the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) used a rope fashioned into a bridle to pull the animal out of the water.

Officers arrived at a home in Springlake in Oklahoma City on July 29 to find the horse standing in the corner of the pool with its head peeking out of the water.

Bodycam footage shows four officers and two residents joining forces to pull the horse up the pool's stairs by a rope.

A seventh person was seen slapping the water behind the pony to encourage it to move forward.

Oklahoma City Police Department said: "You know it’s a hot day in Oklahoma when the pony gets in the pool.

"Springlake officers assisted with a pony rescue after the aquatic equine took a dip in the 2100 block of NE 86th Street.

"The horse was in the water for quite some time before being rescued.

"We’re happy to report that the mare was not injured and the equine is fine."
