OKLAHOMA CITY At Monday’s meeting, the Oklahoma Transportation Commission approved the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges Plan for fiscal years 2025 through 2029, scheduling more than $863 million in improvements to county roads and bridges.

This includes a $5.2 million project at Luther Road in Oklahoma County for the rehabilitation of the bridge and approaches at the North Canadian River.

Designed by the state Legislature, the plan will replace or rehabilitate 176 county bridges and improve 408 miles of roadway over the next five years.

“ODOT appreciates the support of the Transportation Commission and the Legislature’s recognition of the county road network’s importance,” said ODOT Executive Director Tim Gatz. “These projects represent a significant investment in infrastructure with positive safety and economic impacts.”

All 77 counties are represented, and the department works with the state’s eight Circuit Engineering Districts to prioritize high-need projects and maximize funding sources. Since its inception in 2006, CIRB funding has significantly improved the condition and safety of county roads.

This year’s plan includes significant new projects such as a $5.2 million bridge rehabilitation at Luther Road in Oklahoma County, a $1.3 million drainage and reconstruction project in Commerce, a $2 million bridge replacement over Cache Creek in Leflore County, an $8.7 million road widening and resurfacing project in Kiowa County and a $2.5 million road widening and resurfacing project in Major County.
