Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler, a spot that's been a staple for many locals. The restaurant boasts an open layout with an open kitchen, seamlessly connected to the Graphite art gallery, enhancing the overall ambiance. My culinary journey here included a delightful array of dishes. The duck leg paired with sticky rice cake was a standout, alongside the uniquely flavorful mushroom pasta with skirt steak. The chef surprised us with a complimentary pumpkin soup that was rich and comforting, perfect for the setting.
The menu at Johnnie's offers some classic favorites, and I couldn't resist trying the Theta burger, enhanced with bacon and cheese, and a side of their handmade onion rings, which were truly the best in town. Despite some critiques about the fries and the unchanged decor over the years, the fast and friendly service added to the experience, making it a worthwhile visit. While the homemade chips weren't to my taste due to the garlic parmesan seasoning, the generous portion of turkey in the Cranberry Turkey on Wheatberry bread was delicious and made up for it.
Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler remains a charming mix of old and new, where classic dishes meet a vibrant setting. Whether you're in for the burgers or the unique sides, it's a place that still holds its charm amidst the bustling city life.
