Oklahoma dairy herd tested positive for bird flu, ODAFF says

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) said a herd of dairy cows tested positive for bird flu.

In a press release, ODAFF said the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service collected a positive sample in April.

ODAFF said the dairy herd has fully recovered and no more cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) are reported.

Oklahoma is the 13th state to have a confirmed positive case of HPAI in a dairy herd, according to ODAFF.

Common signs of HPAI include a decrease in milk yield, lethargy, dehydration and fever among other symptoms.

Dairy farmers who suspect cases of HPAI should call ODAFF at 405-522-6141.
