Governor Hochul Awards Key Contract for Syracuse’s Transformative I-81 Project
(WNY News Now) – Syracuse – Governor Kathy Hochul announced the award of the fourth construction contract for the transformative Interstate 81 Viaduct Project. The award of the $313.5 million contract to CNY Alliance will begin construction on the Community Grid along streets on Syracuse’s eastside, in the former 15th Ward neighborhood. The Community Grid will replace the elevated highway in Downtown Syracuse and will relieve existing traffic congestion challenges in the city, while improving access to and from the interstate highway network and key destinations, including the downtown business districts, area hospitals, and higher education institutions.

Four people, including two kids, stabbed to death in Bensonhurst apartment
BENSONHURST — A TRAGIC SCENE unfolded on West 8th Street in Bensonhurst late Friday night when a 24-year-old man allegedly stabbed his brother’s wife, mother and two children to death after a domestic dispute. Police say they responded at roughly 10:18 p.m. after receiving a 911 call of an assault in progress within an apartment. Upon arrival, officers found a 56-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds to her neck. Upon further investigation, they discovered a 27-year-old woman, a 5-year-old girl, and a 4-year-old boy all deceased inside the apartment. The victims were identified as Fayzieva Mavlyuda, 56; Maftuna Khakimova, 27; Kamila Shavkatova, 5; and Timur Shavkatov, 4. The 24-year-old suspect was taken into custody.

Realmuto Alta Pasticceria, a 5,000-square-foot all-day Italian cafe and pastry shop is in soft open mode starting today at 117 Seventh Ave South, the longtime home of the West Village Gourmet Garage supermarket. Owner Francesco Realmuto, who also owns Filaga Pizzeria and L’Arte del Gelato in Manhattan has tapped Giuseppe Zito to lead the bakery — a decorated pastry chef who has been a world champion for his panettone. On the sweet side expect bomboloni, cannoli, and more. There’s a full-service lunch and dinner component by Mauro Campanale, who also relocated to New York for the role, that includes several handmade pastas and other entries, as well as savory pastries like salted cod macarons and fava bean and pecorino tarts. By night, there will eventually be apertivi options as well. The space — decorated to look like a “vibrant indoor Italian piazza” seats around 50, according to a spokesperson. Driver found dead after truck explosion causes road closures, evacuations in Clifton
A driver has been found dead after a large truck exploded and caught fire, which prompted road closures and traffic delays in Clifton on Monday morning.It happened on Route 3 near East Valley Road around 9 a.m. but the large mess left behind will likely take a while to be cleaned up.Route 3 was closed in both directions following the crash, but the westbound lanes reopened Monday evening.Eastbound lanes are still closed between Route 46 and Grove Street.
