Herkimer Town Board reviews park reopening, solar project, and various community initiatives
“It was a good weekend,” Herkimer Town Supervisor Dominic Frank said at the July 15 meeting of the Herkimer Town Board. He was referring to the grand reopening of the Town of Herkimer Park at 154 Pine Grove Road, which took place Saturday, July 13. The park features many improvements, including a basketball court, an improved tennis/pickleball court, a walking trail, and an outdoor fitness area.

Dawgs Take It Down To The Wire Again, Win Third Straight Over Amsterdam
LITTLE FALLS, NY – Thursday night’s dramatics for the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs came in the form of the pitchers, and they delivered in spades. The Diamond Dawgs took the lead in the bottom of the eighth and never looked back, pitching a nail-biter to knock off the Amsterdam Mohawks, 2-1. The two teams were scoreless until the seventh when Zach Eldred (East Greenbush, NY/SUNY Brockport) scored Evan Haeger (New Hudson, MI/Alabama) on an RBI single that got all the way to the right field wall. Mohawk Valley tied it up, though in the bottom of the seventh on a hot grounder by Luke Nomura (Maplewood, NJ/Fairfield) that the Amsterdam shortstop booted into left field. That allowed Max McGlone (Doylestown, PA/West Point) to score and tie up the game.

The Attica Prison Riot, also known as the Attica Prison Rebellion, began on September 9, and ended on September 13, 1971, at the Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, New York. Cooling station for unhoused people opens in Ilion

Potentially Deadly Veggies Sold In New York Stores
A voluntary recall has been expanded due to the potential health threat it poses in New York State. Wiers Farm Inc. of Willard, Ohio, is expanding its July 12, 2024, recall. The recall was initiated by findings reported by the Michigan Department of Agriculture. New York Provides Free Overdose Emergency Kits to Domestic Violence Shelters
Domestic violence shelters and service providers across New York State now have access to free Overdose Emergency Kits. This initiative is a partnership between the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV), the Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS), and the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). The kits are provided through Project COPE (Community Overdose Prevention Education), funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
