Boyne Thunder Poker Run roars through Northern Michigan waters
CHARLEVOIX — Powerboats raced through Northern Michigan waters on Saturday, July 13 during the annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run. The unique boating event features high-performance boats cutting through the waters of Lake Charlevoix and Lake Michigan on a 150-mile journey that starts in Boyne City and travels through Charlevoix, Elk Rapids, Northport, Bay Harbor and Harbor Springs.
Man dies while swimming in Lake Michigan near his home, deputies say
ANTRIM COUNTY — On Sunday, July 14, the Antrim County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported drowning in Lake Michigan. Deputies said the Milton Township man had gone swimming near his home off Mackenzie Drive when he disappeared. His wife went out in a kayak to look for him. A neighbor found the man face down in the water, pulled him out and started CPR. The victim, whose name is being withheld, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no signs of foul play.
Boyne City Police Department warns of gasoline thefts
CHARLEVOIX COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Boyne City Police Department is warning of gasoline thefts in the area. The police department said in a statement that "starting around the 4th of July, of gasoline being siphoned directly out of motor vehicle fuel tanks (Passenger Vehicle, Watercraft, Riding Lawnmower) while parked in a driveway, stored on a trailer, or left in a backyard."
