OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (WTNH) — This story is bananas!

Twins turn 3 in hospital after father allegedly tried to drown them at West Haven beach

A small marmoset variant was found in a shed in Old Saybrook on Monday night around 6 p.m., according to officials with the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP).

A resident of the home and a neighbor discovered it after spotting what they believed to be a bat in the yard a few minutes earlier. After opening the shed and seeing the primate, they shut it and called the police.

“I walked over there and I looked at it and said ‘that’s not a bat, that’s a monkey!'” Steve Crandall, a neighbor, said.

From there, DEEP was called, and, with the help of the animal’s owner, they ended up removing the monkey and it’s in their care. The creature’s owner left prior to News 8’s arrival.

The marmoset variant is considered illegal in Connecticut.
