Looking Back, Loomis: 1999 - Placer Supervisors approve casino
Pee Wee Reese, a great shortstop for the Dodgers baseball team, died recently. He was a great friend of Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball. Their friendship was demonstrated when things got ugly at Crossley Field in Cincinnati. Reese put his arm around the rookie's shoulder, a show of unity that spoke volumes. That friendship was important in an incident in St. Louis during Robinson's first time at bat. The Cardinal catcher came out of the dugout and turned a black cat onto the playing field, to the delight of some in the crowd.
