Tickets now on sale for inaugural Simmons Bank Championship, first ever PGA Tour event held in Natural State
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Tickets are now on sale for the inaugural Simmons Bank Championship presented by Stephens, the first-ever PGA Tour event held in Arkansas. The tournament, which serves as the second round of the PGA Tour Champions’ annual Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs, will be held at Pleasant Valley Country Club throughout the week of Oct. 21-27.
Arkansas coalition receives $100 million in federal funds for energy, environment projects
Approximately half of Arkansas’ population is expected to feel the effects of a $100 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to reduce climate pollution. A coalition including Metroplan, Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission and the city of Fort Smith is one of 25 recipients of the nationally funded grants, according to a press release. The funding is available through President Joe Biden’s Investing in America Agenda.

Fishing 4 Possibilities opens registration
The 4th Annual Fishing 4 Possibilities tournament benefiting Christian Action Ministries and Coffee Creations has opened registration for anglers and sponsors for the event. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14, at K-Dock Marina, located at 727 Warren Road in Kirbyville. Registration fees are $50 per boat with a maximum of two people per boat. The first 100 people to register will receive a free swag bag.
City of Forsyth seeks public works, parks help
The City of Forsyth is looking to reorganize the Parks and Recreation Board and add a public works employee to help keep projects running smoothly. At the Board of Aldermen meeting held Monday, July 15, the board recognized some of the members of the Parks and Recreation Board were no longer serving and there were individuals interested in filling the positions.
Premiere Dance Academy claims two national titles
A local dance academy is celebrating a pair of successes at competitions this summer. Premiere Dance Academy, located at 135 1st street in Hollister, captured the Edge Cup Award during the National Edge Talent Competition, hosted in Branson on Friday, July 12. The outfit won the award for the highest scoring 12 and under routine, with their performance of “The Clubhouse.” The competition showcased talent from dance studios across numerous states. In June, the academy competed at the Spotlight Dance Cup Nationals and won the National Spotlight Production Championship title.
Fall festival 5K promises a grape time
With fall around the corner, runners are raisin to sign up for the 2024 Color Me Grape 5K Run. The run happens in Hollister yearly, in conjunction with the popular Grape & Fall Festival. The cost of participating is $30 if signed up through October 1, and $35 thereafter. Children ages four and under are free and dogs are $10. The run will begin at Hollister City Hall at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 12.
